I'm Guessing That "Sex Change" Will Be Suggested In A Matter Of Moments

I need a "next big thing."

Every year, for as long as I can remember, there has been something new and exciting and big to look forward to or work toward...finishing grad school, getting married, buying a house, running a marathon, having a baby, running other marathons, starting new jobs, going on big trips...

This year? I got nothin'

Marathons are out after last year's personal best (and knee-destroying) half marathon. We don't want to move. I'm happy with my job. I don't want another child. I don't want another husband. I've looked into other graduate programs, and really just don't have the desire.

I don't know if it is just the winter doldrums ("doldrums" is a pretty funny word --say it a few times) or if I just miss having something to get excited about that is new and different. But I'm feeling restless.

So, I'm opening the (virtual) floor to my faithful readers. What should be my next big thing? What are some "next big things" you've done that you'd recommend or that you've always wanted to try?

Do me a solid and help out a sistah...

UPDATE: So far, some fantastic suggestions that I will be sifting through to determine which are most feasible (perhaps a tat/piercing/swinging trifecta?). In the meantime, one next big thing is trying to find out which designer made my-very-favorite-shoes-of-all-time (shown here on Brooke Shields). Maybe THIS is what I have been looking for to make my life complete...

UPDATE #2: Please note how Brooke Shields is posing in EXACTLY THE SAME WAY as I am in my blogger profile picture. The 3/4 pose with the hand on the hip. We called each other...

May I suggest body piercing(s)? I got my 'next big thing' out of the way for 2009 in about 15 seconds of excruciating pain -- and now my nose is pierced! Goal set and met within about an hour.

My goal for this year, besides avoiding further painful body-related artistic expression, is to build up my natural healthcare business. So maybe that's what you could do -- start a side business doing something you love. You can help other cities start Dilletante clubs (start with NYC please).

There's always swinging. I thought that was the default for suburban breeders. Of course, when you're a youthful urbanero that tends to be a default setting, but I think you guys out beyond the pale could manage to live the dream.

Two words: tramp stamp.

That, or you could take a page out of your father-in-law's book and build a working replica of/refurbish something old. Like perhaps a 1995 Chevy Lumina sedan? Or less self-serving (to me, that is) a piece of furniture, etc. Nothing smells more of accomplishment than drying polyurethane.

How 'bout helping me find a job?

Meet Barack Obama?

Meet Ellen Degeneres?

Visit the family in Colorado?

get rid of stupid cough?

Oh wait, these are my list.

I think the answer is to start living vicariously through the kid. She can run marathons, enter beauty pageants, play several sports and instruments...all at the same time! You haven't given her enough material for therapy yet.

Other suggestions:

-plant a garden
-learn to sew
-hike the Appalachian trail
-new hair color
-trapeze (for christ sake)
-turn one or both of your blogs into a smash hit (I know you have it in you!)

I do think swinging is the best option, however. I mean, you talk about it all the time. Might as well experience it.

The idiotrod is coming out ahead thus far...(which maybe I can do while pierced, tattooed, starting my own business, swinging and entering my kid into a bunch of beauty pageants). My work is never done.

Though, I am still looking for something to be completed during the '09 calendar year...

Dilettante07 - (wringing hands evilly), "they will be mine...oh, yes...they will be mine..." They should be my treat to myself as a special something to wear to Krennie's wedding this year.

You should write a book. A diet book, or self-help book--people can't get enough of that.

Or, you could get a puppy--kind of like having another baby. They wake you up in the middle of the night, and you have to clean up their pee and poop.
