Seeing Me Just How I Want Her To

I was drawing pictures for Avery this weekend. She said, "Draw daddy," so I drew daddy and said, "What should I draw daddy doing?" and she said, "riding his bike."

Then she said, "Draw mommy," so I was drawing myself and said, "What should I draw mommy doing?" and she said, "laughing."

Awwwwww.... Sounds like you might save a lot on her therapy after all. I'm always a bit relieved when Will draws himself smiling -- and not all brown.

This is one of my all-time favorite anythings! I have shared it with just about every woman I know who has children, but especially those with daughters. Whenever I'm in danger of forgetting, it reminds me that laughter is not just okay, it's vital.
I enjoy your other writings, too. But this is the only one that has its very own shortcut on my phone.
Thank you.

Lucky you! My child would have answered "vacuuming."

Jen BC - I know, right? Whenever Ave is playing with her American Girl doll and calls her "sweetie" and treats the doll lovingly, I assume (cling to the fact) that she's patterning what she sees/experiences. I beat myself up over the non-stellar parenting moments, but the kiddos seem to grasp the good stuff that happens more frequently.

AIRH - And this is one of my all-time favorite comments! I cannot tell you what it means to me that this has resonated with you so strongly. Thank you so much for commenting and letting me know that.

Kathleen - I'm sure the answer would be different on different days...
